someone sent this old Rumi poem to a listserver
i hang around on.
Who makes these changes?
I shoot an arrow right.
It lands left.
I ride after a deer and find myself
chased by a hog.
I plot to get what I want
and end up in prison.
I dig pits to trap others
and fall in.
I should be suspicious
of what I want.
-Rumi / Barks
if that isn't an accurate description of my life, i don't know what is. well, i haven't ended up in prison yet, but i'll keep trying. i just never know what i might end up accidentally accomplishing.

Yeah, I like the accidentally accomplishing part. I can totally identify with that poem. I feel like my life is a series of carefully orchestrated failures that for the most part, I do not regret.
